Stevens County – WaHCA Peer Continuing Education Series – Co-Occurring Disorders

June 5, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP

FOR PEER SUPPORT COUNSELORS

  • TOPIC:

Co-occurring Disorders Training for Peer Support Counselors is interactive and provides useful tools for Peer Support Counselors working with people who experience co-occurring disorders – the coexistence of both a mental health and a substance use disorder. It will further define co-occurring disorders, introduce study results, the Stages of Change, relapse prevention, and cover the SAMHSA perspective. In a classroom setting, peer counselors will learn how to positively work with people who experience co-occurring disorders.

  • ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Josh Wallace is the Executive Director of Peer Seattle, a peer run peer support services provider organization addressing behavioral health and HIV challenges in the LGBTQ and allied communities including the King County Drug Diversion Court community. He also provides program and training consulting work through his business, Peer Services Consulting, to organizations and tribal communities nationwide and internationally through the University of Washington’s International Training & Education Center for Health. Josh has been working in the field of peer services since 2006 and, in 2011, co-founded one of the first peer recovery coaching programs in Washington state. He is a founding board member of the Washington Recovery Alliance and serves on the King County Mental Illness & Drug Dependency advisory group, the Health Care Authority’s Substance Use Disorder Peer Integration advisory group and the Behavioral Health Workforce legislative workgroup.
