Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

December 5, 2016 @ 8:30 am - December 6, 2016 @ 4:30 pm

$175

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is for everyone 16 or older—regardless of prior experience—who wants to be able to provide suicide first aid. Shown by major studies to significantly reduce suicidality, the ASIST model teaches effective intervention skills while helping to build suicide prevention networks in the community.

ASIST is an approved workshop for Washington school nurses, school counselors, school psychologists, and school social workers who require 3 hours (minimum) of training in suicide prevention from an approved curriculum. (Approved curriculum for the new 6 hour requirement has not been identified, but it’s a good bet ASIST will qualify.) Other credits available:

  • 14 Clock hours are approved through ESD 112.
  • 12.5 hours NASW OR chapter
  • CEUs are also available through LivingWorks Education for an additional fee.

In the course of the two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to: • Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions • Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs • Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it • Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care.

Registration is limited to 30.
